My father was Capt. Robert S. Derby. HQ company, 743 tank battalion. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Oak Leave Clusters. Went from D-Day through and past the Elbe River. I would love to talk to some of the relatives of the men in the battalion.
I just found his copy of Move Out Verify and have all 4 of the maps they made in Germany after the war.
I also have photographs of the entire battalion with names written on the back of it. If there is a place to upload this photo, I would be happy to do that or send it via email.

- Dag Ben Savelkoul, mijn Amerikaanse vader vocht in WWII als schutter op een tank destroyer. Hij kwam uit West Virginia. De beheerder van http://www.wvgenweb.org/marshall/lawrenceberardi.pdf heeft een biografie over hem gemaakt. Zijn batallion 628 TD was o.a. in zuid Limburg (Colmont, Voerendaal en Winthagen) Ik heb de Unit Journals waarin dit beschreven staat. Bij interesse wil ik je een kopie sturen. vriendelijke groet!

- I am a big fan of 743rd Tank Bn as well as Tank Destroyers. I first read Hell Has no Heroes when I was a kid in 1970 and I recently got Move Out Verify from Camp Blanding Museum. What a read!! Is anyone in 743rd Tank still alive?

- I've have a book at the printer now entitled Old Hickory Recon that details the wartime history of Marion Sanford, who served with the 30th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop (Mechanized) of the 30th Infantry Division. He was with the 30th Recon from 1942 until 1945. I have a photo of a memorial at Gaurain-Ramecroix, Belgium (near Tournai) dedicated to three fallen Old Hickory soldiers were killed there 2 Sep 1944. Sgt. Sanford talks a great deal in the book about his time in Heelen & Valkenburg and he developed a great love for the Dutch that has endured for almost 70 years. Ben, please feel free to contact me, I'd like to talk with you more.

My Father was in the recon unit that was ambushed at Barby germany on April 12,1945. % men were killed and several others including my Father were wounded. After the war he attended a number of 643 TD Battalian. I would appreciate if there are GPS positions availible at the attack site in order to view via google earth.
I would like to thank the Dutchman who honored the men of this Co C recon unit. I've been searching for infomation on this action on April 12,1945 at Barby Germany. My Father passed away in 1989.
Someday I'd like to pay homage at that location. I've attempted to respond to the Dutchman who planted the flowers at the attack site, but have been blocked as I do not know the Dutch language. My Father lost very close friends in his Recon unit that day and his scars of wounds were quite severe.

My wifes grandfather recently passed (8-14-12) And I beleive he may have been with the 743rd pre D-Day thru Aachen where he lost his left leg to artillery. His rank/name is 1rst Lt Arthur J Larson from Chicago. My mothers brother was Wilfred Mombourquette of Co. B 643rd TD.
I have a picture of him , in uniform,I would like to get to you to include next to his name. The larger picture of him has the Co B insignia on the collar brass, and I have it in his medals display. I tried to spot him on the Co B group photo, however it was too grainy to make him out completely, I narrowed down four possibilities, but without a clearer picture this is not possibleo I get his photo to you?

- My grandfather was in the 643rd and was a prisoner of war. His name was Alexander Sosenko. I can't find his name on any of the listings. Just wondering if you knew of him?
