My deceased father-in-law was Capt. Edward Miller of HQ and HQ Company. Since he and I were both Army veterans, he used to share some of his first hand experiences in the 743d with me. He retired as a full Colonel in 1965. I was lucky to meet his best friend from the ol' 743d, Capt. Bob Speers, the Battalion S-2. Together they told some incredible stories.

Domingos Frutuozo is still alive and well at 92. We have his interview from a local paper and photos if you'd like.

Hi Ben

Not sure if you remember but I submitted the pictures of William Ropple who was killed while serving with the 643rd. As it turns out we had 2 other men from my neigborhood who served with the 643rd. John Nickerson and Joseph Murray. They both enlisted on the same day March 18th 1943. John Nickerson won the Silver Star and Joseph Murray won the Bronze Star. All 3 of these guys, Ropple, Nickerson and Murray served in the recon company and all three were from Charlestown Boston Mass.

I was interested to learn about any of the time that the battalion spent in the Desert Training Center (Camp Ibis, Camp Laguna). Thanks for anything!

One more note; My wife and I visited Heerlen in May of this year (inquest of 29th Inf. Div. battle sites) and the most wonderful time in your lovely city. We spent four nights there and took day trips form our 'Guest House'. We hope to visit again one day.

You have a wonderful site! I was a member of the 29th Division from 1962 until 1968 (Maryland National Guard). My interest in WWII led my to this site; looking for information on the type of "Shermans" used by the 743rd Tk. Battalion.

The 29th will hold its 94th reunion in October, it would be nice to see some of the 743rd's men there.
